High Ranks

Grand Royal - The leader of the clan; said to be holding secrets that were passed down from generation to generation. This rank is passed on to whoever the current Grand Royal sees fit, often having more than one apprentice to see which one deserves it. Stories have started to claim they are unbeatable in battle for their skills that were passed from one Grand Royal to the next. These skills are said to be very different in each clan. Grand Royal does not have to pick their GR apprentices until they feel they need too or their lives are close to being over (ie. 2 lives left). A Grand Royal may have kits and a mate, however they CANNOT pick from their own litter for their Grand Royal apprentices. This is to avoid favoritism. The kits will automatically be in the Royal rank.

Grand Royal Apprentice - The next in line for becoming the Grand Royal; these cats are directly trained and challenged by the Grand Royal themselves. Apprentices are chosen carefully amongst a litter of Royals, the ones chosen usually hold the most promise. The maximum amount of apprentices on Grand Royal can have is three by the end of two seasons, no more than that. Usually by the end of four seasons, there is only one left; that one ends up becoming the next Grand Royal. Alongside the Grand Royal, a  Royal will be specifically chosen to help train the apprentices.

Medicine CatNot fitting anywhere in the hierarchy of the clans, Medicine Cats are the exception to many rules. For example; a Medicine Cat is able to order anyone around, if, of course, it is for the benefit of that individual's health. The Grand Royal often consults the Medicine Cat before making a decision, so these ranked individuals are known for being some of the wisest of the clans. Medicine Cat Apprentices usually go through a series of tests before they officially become a Medicine Cat of the clan.

 Regular Ranks

Royals - These are chosen by the Grand Royal at the start of their reign. Royals are some of the best warriors in the clan, and are usually a last resort in battles. It is said that Royals are only allowed to have mates with other Royals, this is meant to "purify" the next litter. However, a Royal may chose to take a Commoner mate though they risk possible ridicule. The amount of kits each Royal she-cat is allowed to have is two per litter, any more than that are killed, abandoned, or moved down to the rank of a Commoner. Once a new Grand Royal rises, the current Royals become commoners unless chosen by the new Grand Royal to be a Royal again.

CommonersMaking up a majority of the Clan, Commoners are known for being the average battler. Each Commoner Apprentice only has one mentor. Commoner queens are known for taking in the abandoned kits of the Royal's should one of their queens have more than 2 kits. The Commoner queens may have up to 6 kits in their litters unless they are somehow mated with a Royal. Then the 2 kit rule applies to them, due to the kits immediately being the rank of Royal upon birth.

Apprentices - Apprentices are those 6 moons and older. No matter the birth rank, they all have the suffix -paw and share a den. Other than the Grand Royal Apprentices, every other apprentice gets only one mentor. The Royal's may or may not bully those under them, but it depends on the cat. Commoners are usually given the more gruesome tasks such as cleaning the nests and pulling ticks from the elders while the Royals help with herb gathering and building.

Queens - The mothers of the Clan. These she-cats normally hole up in the nursery right before birth and stay there until their kits are made apprentices. Some she-cats may chose to stay a queen for their life, though this is rare. The occasional father may also join the ranks of Queen, though it is even more rare, as most strive to be promoted.

Kits - The young of the Clan. These cats are 6 moons and younger. They are the Clan's future and protected at all costs, mostly those of the Royal rank before others. They are not allowed out of the camp's walls.

Elders - Those retired after serving a lifetime for the Clan. These cats are few and far between, since most in the Clans would prefer to die in battle than of old age. Those that are around are known for their wisdom and stories. Very few in this rank might also still vaguely remember the time before the Big Journy and the old ways.
